If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
Submitted by chris.Mine would say something like...
Careful, contents under preassure. Will learn voraciously, process indpendantly and collectively, digest, assimilate, re-design, re-organize, re-frame at will and without notice. Fragile, handle with care. Will meet, confound, re-affirm and oblitherate stereotypes, simultaneously and without notice.

When I checked in to the hotel tonight, finally, I began to unpack. I turned on the TV and this was the first thing I heard "Many travelers experience signs of stress.." and I wanted to answer-
"You think?"
It's been a day, an almost 48 hour day to be precise. I'm in Seattle, WA for the National Association of Independent Schools People of Color in Independant Schools Conference and Student Diversity Leaderhip Conference.
POCC 2006! I am excited to be here for this experience. I know that I am lucky...that my school not only makes it possible for me to attend each year but that we also have brought students for the past several years.
It feels like it has taken a climb through the Rockies to get here right now. I'm streched at work almost beyond tolerance, definately beyond what I think is healthy and it takes a 10 hour plus day, on the regular to make it all work. What needed to happen yesterday and today to clear up 'enough' so that I could be here and plugged in to this event fully- for my school, for my group, for myself.
I'm hopping I can shake off enough of what I've been carrying to take this in in the way I so need right now.
More on the iimportance of this conference later...sleep demands.
This picture. Seemingly innocent, right? In two years I am guessing this would be illegal. I was trying to take a picture of my group here on the plane- 5 adults, 5 students, 5 of us are conference veterans, 5 of us newbies. All of us 'people of color.' Here we go...
It is NAIS POCC AND SDLC 2006. National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference and Student Diversity Leadership Conference, held this year in Seattle, WA. Once again, my school has made the commitment and sent a group of 10.
Even though I've been blogging for years I don't think I've ever blogged about this. I will this year. It is a very important year for POCC.
For some background go to http://www.nais.org look up conferences and read the whitepaper.
I hope this works. I was organizinging an purging my bookmarks when I came across this from itoh.com.

It is a little Javascipt applet that is a book by the same name, "I want to tell you about my feelings." It is, hands down, the best communication tool and explanation I have found. I use it over and over and over again.
something fun and funny and useful I found on the web re: blogging. Make sure to watch the slideshow from the beginning, :).
